Dear CrossPointe, Our text this Sunday is Genesis 20:1–18, which sadly depicts one of the great low points in Abraham’s journey of faith. Almost unbelievably, what we see in Genesis 20 is that Abraham once again lies about Sarah being his sister, and once again, she’s taken by a pagan king. It’s one of the most disgraceful failures in Abraham’s life, and it’s all because he gives in to the temptation of a familiar old sin. And yet, the dominant chord that sounds throughout this story isn’t Abraham’s faithless failure, but the unfailing faithfulness of God’s sovereign grace. There’s much to see in this chapter, and I trust the Lord will use His Word to do His work! Love y’all! TK

Dear CrossPointe, Our text for this Sunday is Genesis 19:1–38. If you’re at all familiar with the Bible, then you know this is an infamous chapter. And if you’re not familiar with your Bible, once you read it, you’ll probably realize that you already knew something about it. It’s simply that infamous. And for good reason! This chapter details the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the attempted gang rape of angels, and the incestuous encounter between Lot and his daughters. I love how one commentator put it: “This is a text that should never be preached.” And yet, here it is in Holy Scripture. Which means it is “breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16–17). And that’s exactly what we should pray for and expect from our time together this Sunday—that God would use even this difficult chapter to instruct us, convict us, and ultimately point us to our desperate need for His saving grace. PARENTAL WARNING!: This chapter deals with some really difficult topics. I will in no way make them more graphic than they already are, but I don’t intend to make them more palatable either. It’s an awful story, and we will take it as God has given it to us. What an honor and joy it is to be one of your pastors (even when I have to preach Genesis 19)! Love y’all! TK
